The Cataract Care Centre and Tasmanian Cataract Clinic are run according to world's best practice. We are a boutique practice with a simple goal – helping clients achieve optimum eyesight by providing the finest quality eye care available.

We had the first IOL Master ( revolutionary laser scanning of the size of the eye ) in Australia and we were the first to use sophisticated proprietary formulae from the USA to help determine the correct intra-ocular lens for each patient.

Our staff are dedicated to client needs and spend as much time as necessary to ensure patients understand what is involved with cataract operations.

Costs are obviously a sensitive issue. We have done our best to ensure that all patients can access our clinic.

At the Cataract Care Centre and the Tasmanian Cataract Clinic all patients enrolled in Medicare, whether or not insured or on a pension, are bulk billed for clinic visits with Dr Burgess. This includes initial consultations, reviews, second opinions, pre-operation scans and post-operation laser treatments. There are no out of pocket expenses if patients have a valid referral from their doctor or optometrist. Costs for surgery depend upon whether or not patients have private health insurance or are on a pension.

Surgery costs for privately insured patients depend upon their health fund. Health funds pay varying amounts for cataract surgery. Some cover our normal charge and others require a modest gap or co-payment, which the patient pays. Veteran Affairs Gold Card Holders are not charged out of pocket expenses.

Uninsured patients can still choose to have their operation with Dr Burgess, but are required to pay the private hospital fee. Medicare will pay for the majority of the anaesthetist and surgery accounts but there is still an out of pocket expense to cover.

Pensioners are given a discount for their surgery.
