Dr BurgessDr Fabian Burgess trained at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He undertook further postgraduate training at Moorfield's Eye Hospital in London and held consultant posts at St Thomas' and Charing Cross Hospitals, also in London. He has performed cataract surgery in Nepal as part of the Fred Hollows Foundation.

In addition to being a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, Dr Burgess is also a member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is a foundation member of The Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

For three years Dr Burgess has been in charge of the Cataract Update Course for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists Annual General Meeting. He is one of the busiest and most successful cataract surgeons in Australia.

Outside of the work environment, Dr Burgess has a wide variety of interests to which he applies himself with equal gusto.

His greatest passion and frustration would be his weekly game of golf at Royal Melbourne.  Dr Burgess maintains a competitive playing standard of a low single figure handicap.

Dr Burgess' other personal interests extend to a healthy and ever growing collection of contemporary and photo-realist art, a fascination for complicated watches, a growing interest in the delights of white wine which serves to complement his gift for intricate cordon bleu cooking.  In his next life, Dr Burgess will surely be re-incarnated as a three star Michelin chef.
